Indiana University on a scholarship is named for Ryan White, the students will go to AIDS prevention.The new Legacy Ryan White grants announced Monday by IU's Center for Rural AIDS / STD prevention and its School of Health will be awarded, Physical Education and Sport. The recipients are students in the pursuit of a Master's degree in public health, with a preference for students of AIDS prevention and sexual health.
White contracted AIDS from a transfusion of tainted blood clotting agent. He was diagnosed at the age of 13 and fought a public battle to be allowed to attend school in central Indiana.
Thursday is the 20th Anniversary of his death at the age of 18 His mother, Jeanne White-Ginder, is among the speakers at an IU program Friday on the progress of AIDS / HIV education.
